In compliance with the Ministry of Local Government Decentralization and Rural development directive to keep the district clean to promote health among residents in the district, the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the assembly through the support of the management carried out a clean-up exercise in the three major towns in the district to break the chain of transmission of diseases and promote health in the district.
The exercise was organized in the three major towns of Jimle, Sang and Sambu which are urban and fairly densely populated. It was facilitated by the environmental health and sanitation unit in conjunction with staff from Zoom Lion Ghana Ltd in the district and the community members as well.
During the exercise, staff from the environmental health unit at the assembly and that of Zoom Lion Ghana aided the communities with some logistics such as rakes, long brooms, wheel barrows as well as refuse containers to convey the waste to the communal container sites. Public places within the three communities were clean by the staff from both environmental and Zoom Lion and some of the community members. Other community members also used the opportunity to clean their private homes and business premises to keep these communities clean. Some of the major areas that were tackled during the exercise included Marketplaces, Drains, Refuse dumping sites and the Streets.
