The Mion District Assembly was established on the 6th February, 2012 by Local Government Act, 1993 Act 462 and Legislative Instrument (LI) 2064. It was officially inaugurated on 28th June, 2012. The district was carved out of the Yendi Municipal Assembly due to increasing population and to enable development reach all communities.
